At the hospital, your blood will be used for a patient in need -- a teenager
receiving a monthly transfusion to combat sick-cell anemia, a heart by-pass
surgery patient, an accident victim who is hemorrhaging, a pre-mature infant,
or perhaps a cancer patient who needs platelets.
Only 3% of eligible Bay Area residents are currently donating blood. Because of
people who donate blood, more than 450 Bay Area residents are receiving
life-saving blood each day, 365 days a year. Please consider setting aside time
to be part of this life-saving work.

Summary
- Giving blood is easy, safe and takes approximately one hour.
- Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh at
least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood every 56 days.
- Donors must bring appropriate identification such as a driver's
license or an American Red Cross donor card.
- Donors should eat a good meal or snack and drink lots of fluids
before donating blood.
